Another Fantasy series down the hatch
Okay so I haven’t heard much about this series, but I know it’s pretty popular. It just slipped through my radar, so here I am writing this so that it doesn’t slip through yours too.
The Serpent and Dove series is a trilogy written by Shelby Mahurin. I loved this series for a number of reasons. I think a lot of the time, fantasy books have these super complex and in depth plots that can be pretty tricky to follow, especially when it is a series. What I loved about these books, is that while the plot had so much depth, I still felt like I was following along just fine. Does that make sense? There weren’t these crazy plot lines to throw me off, or add to the moral of the story.
Shelby Mahurin does an incredible job of forming a group of characters that are all so flawed, and real in this fantasy world, and you love them for it. There is an inner circle that the series revolves around for the most part, and I love every single person.
To give you a mini summary – Lou, the main character, is a witch in a world that doesn’t accept witches. She quickly finds herself in a situation where she has to marry a chausseur – aka – a witch hunter. Over the series, we soon find more about Lou’s past, focusing mainly on her mother, who tried to sacrifice her for the overall survival of witches.
Honestly, it’s quite the mouthful, but this series has multiple beautiful love stories, covers the trials and tribulations of friendships, rejections, and family dynamics. The more I think about it, the more I recommend this series.
As I finish this post, there’s one thing I want you to keep in mind. I’m 4 shots deep on a Tuesday as I write this, so read at your own peril.
xoxo Reb.
